How to calculate final score in Catan
Your final score is simply the direct sum of all your points from settlements, cities, victory point cards, and special tokens.
- Settlements
- Number of regular settlement pieces you have built on the board (1 point each).
- Cities
- Number of upgraded city pieces you have built on the board (2 points each).
- Victory Point Cards
- Number of secret or revealed development cards featuring a victory point icon held in your hand or play area (1 point each).
- Longest Road
- Enter 2 if you currently hold the Longest Road special card token, otherwise 0.
- Largest Army
- Enter 2 if you currently hold the Largest Army special card token, otherwise 0.
Frequently asked questions
Do leftover resource cards count toward your final score?
Despite being critical for building, holding leftover resource cards (brick, lumber, wool, grain, ore) at the end of the game awards zero victory points.
When are Victory Point development cards revealed?
Victory Point development cards must remain hidden from opponents in a player's hand and are only revealed when that player has enough total points to instantly claim victory.
Can the Longest Road and Largest Army cards change hands?
The Longest Road (2 points) and Largest Army (2 points) are dynamic bonuses that can be stolen away by an opponent who builds a longer road or plays more knights during the course of the game.
How many points is a city worth compared to a settlement?
Upgrading a settlement to a city costs additional resources, but immediately increases that building's contribution from 1 point to 2 points.
Can a tie happen?
No. A player can only win on their own turn. If multiple players reach 10 points during a round, the active player on whose turn the condition is met wins, regardless of who reached the threshold first.
